Myths and truths of recycling in IbizaFREE Event Date
From 21/03/2019 18:30 to 21/03/2019 19:30
Does it make sense to recycle in Ibiza? Do you want to know where your rubbish ends up? This Thursday, March 21st, the socio-environmental consultant and scientist Flor Dell’Agnolo will explain what’s the cycle of our waste and why is it important to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
We know there are many versions and rumours of waste management and what happens to the recycled material on the island. Some people are still convinced that the lorry doing the pickups from the recycling bins end up putting everything together. And recently we’ve heard that the landfill in Ibiza will reach its full capacity in the next 10 years. What will we then do with our rubbish?
On the other hand, for those of us that do recycle, it’s not an easy task. Straws are plastic, but can’t be recycled, yet plastic spoons can be recycled? And what about coffee capsules?
This Thursday our expert Flor will be clarifying all these confusing matters for us.
Is it a relevant topic? We think the following facts speak for themselves:
According to a study carried out by Ibiza Preservation Foundation, in the last decade, urban solid waste on the island has increased 35% and the amount of waste per capita has doubled the Spanish and European mean. On the other hand, despite the fact that recycled waste has doubled since 2005, it only represents 16,7% of our total waste.
